Honey isn't just a sweetener. It's medicine used by Egyptians, Greeks, and now the Amish.
Wounds and Burns
Apply a thin layer on the wound, cover with bandage. Change every 12–24 hours. Honey creates an acidic environment (pH 3–4) where bacteria can't survive. High sugar concentration draws moisture from bacterial cells (osmosis). Hydrogen peroxide — honey contains an enzyme that slowly releases H₂O₂.
Coughs
1 teaspoon before bed. Studies show honey is as effective as dextromethorphan (cough syrup ingredient) for children over 1 year.
Caution
Never for children under 1 year — botulism risk (Clostridium spores in honey). Safe for older children and adults — stomach acid kills spores.
Storage
Honey doesn't spoil. Literally. Honey found in Egyptian tombs, 3000 years old, was still edible. Crystallization is normal, not spoilage. Warm in a double boiler — liquid again.
