Activated charcoal is the first remedy for food poisoning. The Amish make it themselves.
Preparation
Hardwood (oak, maple) → burn to coals → grind → rinse. To activate: soak in lemon juice 24 hours (acid creates pores). Rinse, dry. Not as effective as commercial, but works.
For Poisoning
1-2 tablespoons powder in a glass of water. Drink. Charcoal adsorbs toxins in the stomach. Effective within 1-2 hours of poisoning. Does NOT replace a doctor for serious poisoning.
External
Bee/wasp sting: charcoal paste with water on the bite — draws venom, reduces swelling. Boil: charcoal compress overnight.
Bloating
1 tsp before meals — adsorbs gas. Don't take with medications (charcoal adsorbs those too).
Storage
Dry place, airtight jar. Stores for years. Dosage: adults 1-2 tbsp, children 1 tsp.
