Amish white bread is the staple. Baked daily or every other day. Simple, soft, perfect.
Ingredients
2 packets yeast. 0.5 cup warm water. 2 cups milk (warm). 0.5 cup sugar. 2 tsp salt. 0.33 cup butter. 6-7 cups flour.
Directions
1. Yeast + water — 10 minutes. 2. Add milk, sugar, salt, butter. 3. Gradually add flour, knead 10 minutes. 4. Cover, let rise 1 hour (doubles). 5. Punch down, divide in 2, place in loaf pans. 6. Rise 30 minutes. 7. 350°F (175°C), 30-35 minutes. Golden top — done.
Secret
Knead by hand — not mixer. 10 minutes. Dough should be elastic and not sticky. If sticky — more flour. If tearing — more kneading.
