Mark, 35, programmer from Seattle. Burnout. Therapy didn't help. Disconnected electricity. For 1000 days. (Didn't become Amish — just unplugged.)

Days 1-30

Hell. Without phone — like missing a hand. Without light — sleep at 8 (nothing to do). Without fridge — buy food daily. Without laptop — what to do at all?

Days 30-100

Habit. Candles. Books (paper — forgot the smell). Walks (instead of Netflix). Cooking (instead of Uber Eats). Hands (drawing, building, fixing — forgotten skills).

Days 100-1000

Different person. Sleeps 9 hours. Wakes without alarm. Knows neighbors (by name, not Wi-Fi). Lost 15 kg (walks everywhere). Reads 50 books/year (was 3). Wrote a book (by hand, pencil).

Day 1001

Turned on the light. Sat. Turned off. Opened computer. Checked email (847 messages. None important). Closed. Kept light in kitchen and bathroom. Rest — candles. Forever. 'I didn't become Amish. I became myself. The self I was before the outlet.'
