Long table. Boys on one side, girls on the other. Sing fast hymns (not slow like service). Sometimes German folk songs. Sometimes translated English hymns. Normal, human tempo.
What It's Really For
Singing is the main event of Amish romance. Boy notices girl. Girl notices boy. After singing — offers a ride home in his courting buggy (open carriage). If she agrees — it begins.
Parents know. Whole community knows. Nobody says it aloud. Gelassenheit.
