Modern people live the same 12 months a year. The Amish live differently each season.

Spring

Plowing, sowing, grafting trees, lambs and calves born. Busiest time — 14-16 hour days. Earth wakes up — and you with it.

Summer

Weeding, watering, haymaking. Long days — dawn to dusk. Early harvest canning (berries, cucumbers). Sunday — only day off, no exceptions.

Fall

Harvest, butchering, canning, smoking, drying. Winter prep: firewood, insulation, repairs. Last push before rest.

Winter

Tool repair, furniture building, quilting, reading. 10-12 hours sleep (more than summer). Visiting neighbors. Board games. Family time.

Wisdom

Humans are part of nature, not its master. In winter the body asks for rest — give it rest. In summer it asks for work — work. Don't fight the rhythm, follow it.
