Amish children study 8 years. Then work. They’re not less intelligent.

How It Works

One room, one teacher 18–25, 20–30 students ages 6–14. Older help younger — teaching = learning.

What They Study

Reading, writing, arithmetic, German, English, Bible. Practical problems: field area, material costs.

Why It Works

Amish don’t need office knowledge. 8 grades give literacy. Rest through apprenticeship. Supreme Court upheld in 1972 (Wisconsin v. Yoder).
