Fence between Miller and Yoder farms: 200 meters, oak posts, rails. Built in 1985. By both families together. In one day.
Rule: each side repairs its half. 100 meters for Millers, 100 for Yoders. In 40 years: not one conflict. Not one argument about 'your post or mine.' Because: a) good fence (oak lasts 50+ years), b) good people (why argue with a neighbor you see every day?).
Robert Frost wrote: 'Good fences make good neighbors.' Amish would rephrase: 'Good neighbors don't need fences. But build them together. Just in case.'
