Amish couple in public: walk side by side (not holding hands). Sit together at church lunch (men and women on separate sides during service, but together at meal). Talk calmly. No kisses. No hugs. No pet names.
At Home

Former Amish
Those who left say: home is warm. Husband may hug wife (when children sleep). Wife may rest her head on his shoulder (by the fire, evening). But: no ex-Amish describes passionate fire. Rather — quiet attachment. Like an old tree wrapping around another tree. Slowly. Forever.
