Income tax (federal + state). Property tax. Sales tax. School tax (yes — even though children attend their own schools, not public ones).

What They Don't

Social Security and Medicare. Exempt since 1965 (after Valentine Byler case). Condition: community provides for elderly. Amish do: Dawdy Haus, church aid, family.

Irony

Amish pay school tax for schools they don't attend. Pay road tax for roads they use with horses. Don't complain. 'Render unto Caesar.'
