Sunday is sacred. No work except necessary (feed livestock, milk cows).
Service Sundays (Every Other)
Morning: dress in best (Amish 'best' = same, but newer). Buggy to host home. 3-3.5 hours. Lunch with community. Home by evening.
Off Sundays
Sleep till 7 (luxury — usually up at 5). Leisurely breakfast. Visit relatives (by buggy — 30-60 min). Lunch at grandma's. Children play with cousins. Men discuss harvest. Women — recipes and babies. Evening — home, dinner, Bible reading, early bed.
What They DON'T Do
Don't work (no field, no workshop). Don't buy or sell. Don't travel far. Don't entertain (noisily). May: walk, read, visit, rest, think.
Contrast
Modern Sunday 'rest': Netflix, Instagram, shopping, restaurant, choice stress. Amish: family, silence, pie, rocking chair on porch. Who rested better?
