The Amish replaced all government institutions with one word: community.
Medicine
Need surgery? Community pays. Each family contributes to a fund. Fund covers expenses. If insufficient — benefit auction: furniture, quilts, food. Raise $50,000-100,000 in a day. No insurance companies, no denials, no lawyers.
Building
Barn raising is the best-known example. But not just barns. House for newlyweds. Workshop for new business. Repair after natural disaster. All by community, free.
Finances
Young family wants to buy land? Community gives interest-free loan. Or helps with down payment. Farmer lost crop? Neighbors share grain and hay. No paperwork, no interest, no collectors.
Old Age
Dawdy Haus (see separate article). Children take care. No nursing homes. No Social Security. Works for 300 years.
Why This Isn't Communism
Private property preserved. Your farm = yours. Your money = yours. Help = voluntary (but refusing = shame). Difference from communism: no coercion, no state, no ideology. Only faith and common sense.
