Amish children don't 'help around the house.' They work. From age three. And consider it normal.
By Age
3-5: gather eggs, feed chickens, sweep porch, fold laundry, help Mom in kitchen (stir dough, wash vegetables). 6-8: milk a goat, weed garden, carry firewood, wash dishes, watch younger siblings. 9-12: milk a cow, split wood, plow with horses (with Dad), cook meals, sew clothes. 13-14: full worker. Boy drives a team. Girl runs the kitchen.
Why
Not exploitation — education. A child who can milk a cow at 10 is ready for independent life at 20. A child playing iPad at 10 is ready for nothing at 20.
Motivation
Not money (that would be hired labor). Belonging: 'you're part of the family, the family works together.' Example: father works alongside, doesn't command from an armchair. Praise: quiet, specific — 'good splitting, even logs.'
