Turkeys are bigger than chickens, more meat, but more care. Amish raise them for holidays.
Breeds
Bronze: classic, 10-15 kg, good flavor. Broad Breasted White: 15-20 kg, commercial, fast growth. Bourbon Red: beautiful, 7-10 kg, excellent flavor (heirloom).
Housing
More space than chickens: 2-3 m² per bird. High roost (turkeys are heavy but like sleeping high). Range mandatory — turkeys walk 1-2 km daily. Fencing 1.5 m (they fly).
Feeding
First 8 weeks: high-protein starter feed (28%). Then: grain + pasture. Turkeys are excellent hunters of bugs and grasshoppers.
Fact
Turkey poults are the dumbest chicks in the world. Can drown in a waterer, freeze next to a lamp, forget where food is. First 2 weeks — constant supervision. Then they toughen up.
