Amish children don't go to swimming pools. Pool = worldly place. But the creek is God's. Creek is allowed.

Rules

No swimsuits (body display = sin). Boys — in pants and shirt. Girls — in dress. Wet clothes dry in the sun in an hour. No problem.

What They Learn

Swim — self-taught. Older show younger. Dive — off rocks. Build dams — from stones and clay. Catch crayfish — by hand. Summer = creek. Creek = childhood.
