Amish woman is pregnant 5-8 times in her life. Each time: no ultrasound (usually), no leave (cows still need milking), no gender reveal (surprise).

Monitoring

Midwife visits monthly (first 6 months), biweekly (7-8), weekly (9th). Listens to heartbeat (stethoscope, not Doppler). Checks position (by hand). Measures belly (tape). If something's wrong — hospital (no argument, life over principles).

Work

Works until the last day. Laundry, kitchen, garden. Heavy lifting — no (husband carries water, older children help). After birth: 2-3 days bed rest. Then back. Who replaces her? Nobody. Well, her mother might come for a week (if alive and healthy).

8th Child

By the 8th — routine. 'Again?' — no, they don't say that. Every child is a blessing. Even the eighth. Especially the eighth (more hands on the farm).
