A static scarecrow works 2-3 days. Then crows sit on it. The Amish know tricks.

What Works

Moving: scarecrow on swivel pole — wind spins it, sleeves flap. Movement = danger to birds. Shiny: foil strips, old CDs, mirrors — glare scares. Noisy: tin cans on string — jingle in wind. Predator: hawk silhouette from plywood on pole — crows fear raptors.

Rotation

Move scarecrow every 2-3 days. Change clothes. Relocate. Birds are smart — they notice patterns. A scarecrow in one spot for 2 weeks is furniture, not a threat.

Netting

For berries (cherry, blueberry) — netting is the only reliable solution. Stretch over frame above bushes. Remove during pollination.

Dog

Best scarecrow is a live dog in the garden. Amish farm dogs chase deer, rabbits, birds. One dog = minus 30-50% crop loss.
