Amish quilts are among the most valued in the world. Handmade, geometric patterns, zero fabric waste.

Structure

Three layers: top (patchwork pattern), filling (cotton batting or wool), bottom (solid fabric). Layers are hand-stitched with tiny stitches.

Scraps

Nothing is wasted. Leftover from clothes-making, worn shirts (good sections), trimmings — all go into quilts. The Amish don't use printed fabrics — only solids, so patterns come from geometry.

Patterns

Log Cabin, Lone Star, Nine Patch, Tumbling Blocks. Each pattern is math: exact angles, exact dimensions, symmetry.

Quilting Stitch

Hand quilting — 10–12 stitches per inch. That's the quality metric. Finer = more valuable. Amish women gather for quilting bees — sewing together as a social event.

Why Today

Amish quilts sell for $500–5,000. Handmade, natural fabrics, last 50+ years. Mass production can't compete with the quality.
